An Elgin pocket watch is just one of the many sought after collectible pocket watches available in the market. So if you have one then you’re just in luck. Depending on the style and design of your Elgin watch you will be able to determine its value so that you can appreciate its history or prefer to sell to numerous watch collectors. Of course, it’s easy to sell these watches since you have the Internet to auction it out but the problem is do you really know its actual value? If not then read on for easy some steps on how to determine the worth or value of your Elgin pocket watch.

The best way to determine the value of your pocket watch is to take note of its serial number of the movement. This information is usually found where the gears on your pocket watch are located. You can also tell the age, quality and grade of you watch if you do a Serial Number Lookup. There are several websites online that have a record of the serial numbers of pocket watches that were manufacturer during the earlier days. You may also utilize information from a library where you can find old books about pocket watches. Once you have determined the quality and age of your watch then it will be easier for you to determine its appraisal.

Making sure that your pocket watch is in good working condition can increase its market value. If you need to have them repaired it’s best to contact a watch specialist who knows how to fix antique watches. This is rare but in any case you can at least try to check if the watch can still be fixed. Some pocket watch parts are still available even online. You can check out the websites that sell pocket watch parts and see if they have the parts that you need for your pocket watch to work.

A good watchmaker or specialist is essential in the successful repair of your antique watch. But before you get carried away once you spot a good one make sure to ask what types of watches they work on. It’s best to find someone who works well with pocket watches since some work on high end watches like Rolex but this is not what you should be looking for. Even if the watchmaker is miles away from your home, you definitely want a good watchmaker rather than someone who lives near but is not really good in fixing pocket watches. Before you know it your pocket watch is fixed superbly and it’s all up to you whether you want to sell it or not.

I am hoping that you may be able to give me some idea of the value of 2 pocket watches that have been in my family for many years. They have sat in my families safe deposit boxes since the 1930′s. Th first one is rather small and in a silver metal case..inside is the initials A.W.W. Co.Waltham, MA with serial numbers…14984292 15 jewels My mother had attached a note saying it was still working on June 6, 1983
The second one and much larger is in a beautiful gold case, with elaborate engraving..The bag I found it in was marked 1894 It is an Elgin with black roman numerals plus red numbers above each of the numerals..The serial numbers I found were inside the case Fahys 5782347..Maybe the engraver) I am not sure whether the watch belonged to my grandfather or his older brother as each passed before 1940…I do know that my grandfather had worked for the railroad as an accountant but I do not see any railroad display but a house and possibly a sailbout in the center of the design..Any information you can give me would be helpful..Thank you Karen

Is this difficult for a watch repairer to fix..?? thank you for any help in this

I have an Elgin B.W. Raymond watch 571, serial # 272266, 9 adjustments, 21 jewels, in very good condition, 10 k gold filled case. minor wear on back, crystal is perfect no scratches. Wondering how much it might be worth. I bought it about 15 years ago for 75.00 from a guy who was needing money. I know its hard to give a value without holding the watch and examining it but best guess estimate would be great. Thanks.
