Digital Pocket Watch – Where To Find And Buy Them
Posted By: DannyThe idea of a digital pocket watch may sound absurd but they are really real and can be bought in almost the same stores that sell the more common pocket watches we are used to seeing. They are not as expensive as those usually “pure” and original pocket watches but are fun to have. Some are even making a cute mockery of the classic pocket watches and have a dial face that is entirely digital. They are cute to give to those who are close to us. Although collectors of pocket watches consider them ugly and made in bad taste.
These digital watches are available in most sporting goods stores and even some trusted jewelry shops. They have many designs to pick form and some even come with added features for those who have an adventurous spirit. It may have one or several attachments along its chain or “leash” like a compass, cigar cutter, a magnifying glass, or even a bottle opener. Prices for these pocket watches can start from around $50 to $150 and can range in size as well. Pick the ones that made from reliable brands so as not to put your money to waste.
On the other hand, there is a lot of science that goes into these clocks too. They may not have mechanical parts but are more precise in telling the time. Most digital pocket watches have transceivers attached to them and they are all linked to the National institute of Standards and Technology transmitter and they can reset their time daily via radio frequency. This radio signal embedded in the clock can receive information from the institute and it can automatically update the time. They have a range of around 2,000 miles (radius) and can pick up signals quite easily.
You may think that these pocket watches are the sons of a new age, on the contrary, they have been made since the early 1970′s and can be considered antiques themselves! Funny isn’t it? The first of its kind used to have a diode that emitted a red light to tell the time. The bearer would push a button to see the time; this had to be done every time as the diode took up too much energy to be constantly glowing. Due to the cumbersomeness of pulling it out and then putting it back in whenever it was used, the wristwatch was quick to take over it’s place and hence, the pocket watches were pushed to the side for the time being.
Digital pocket watches, unlike their more elegant counterparts, are mostly battery operated and may need changing from time to time. However, these are really not made to last and are disposed of once they have been damaged or broken. Pick a reasonably priced watch and you may enjoy it for a good amount of time.
